A planned ban on automated messaging used by collection agencies has been dropped by Ofcom as they said that they do not believe that as a whole it should be banned.
There have been concerns that some collection agencies use this method more than is required, and there have been concerns that debtors are feeling abused by the number of messages sent, but Ofcom have declined to blanket ban them.
Instead Ofcom have agreed to look into individual cases to ensure that companies are using the service correctly and not being over zealous in their approach.
Ofcom have said they are governing this service as much as they can, and they are complying with their procedures and the office of fair trading debt collection guidance.
