The Jatropha trees seeds are used to make Jatropha Biofuel which is now an established source of green oil and is being utilised for large scale energy production and also for transportation to power vehicles.
Green oil is a renewable energy source and almost totally carbon neutral in use especially Jatropha as the plant absorbs carbon dioxide as it grows, therefore helping to offset the carbon created when it is burnt.
Jatropha Production is good for poor 3rd world countries as it and can help to eradicate poverty. The Jatropha trees grow best in soil which is not suitable or rich enough for food production so therefore the production of Jatropha is a good option for third world countries to grow themselves out of poverty.
The returns for farmers from Jatropha are lower than they could receive from food, so there is no temptation to divert valuable agricultural land into Jatropha Biofuel production.
As well as green oil, the Jatropha trees produce fertiliser, latex and some medicinal by-products.
